High National Council
High National Council (Nemzeti Főtanács) was Hungary’s collective head of state from January 26, 1945, to February 1, 1946. The monarchy was vacant during this time. It served as an interim head of state and disputed with Ferenc Szálasi (leader of the Arrow Cross) until March 28, 1945. The Prime Minister was Béla Miklós. The council followed Ferenc Szálasi as head of state and was succeeded by Zoltán Tildy, who became President of the Republic. The council included members from Independent, FKGP (Independent Smallholders Party), and MKP (Hungarian Communist Party).
