Popular Front for the Liberation of Bahrain (Arabic: الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير البحرين) was an underground political group in Bahrain. It grew from the Arab Nationalist Movement, with members leaning toward Marxist ideas. It formed in 1974 after the Popular Front for the Liberation of the Occupied Arabian Gulf split into two groups: the Front for Bahrain and the Front for Oman. Some members helped in the Dhofar Rebellion in Oman (1963–1976). Led by Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi, the PFLB dissolved in 2001. In 2000, its members helped create the National Democratic Action Society (NDAS), the first officially licensed political party in any Gulf Arab state; the NDAS succeeded the PFLB. Ideology: Arab nationalism and Marxism–Leninism. Preceded by: Popular Front for the Liberation of the Occupied Arabian Gulf. Succeeded by: National Democratic Action Society.
