Wikimedia Deutschland (WMDE) is a German non-profit based in Berlin. It was founded on June 13, 2004, as the first national chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation and works to promote free knowledge in Germany. It funds and supports projects beyond the core initiative, runs its own fundraising, and hosts the annual summit of Wikimedia affiliates.

By 2025, WMDE reported more than 110,000 dues-paying members and around 180 employees. Its work includes software development for Wikimedia projects, community support for contributors, public relations, and educational, scientific, and cultural collaborations. WMDE also collaborates with educational and cultural institutions to improve access to knowledge.

Governing bodies include the General Assembly (the supreme body), the Honorary Executive Committee, and a full-time Executive Board. General Assemblies are held twice a year, where members elect leaders and vote on matters. Jimmy Wales is an honorary member. Membership is open to active, supporting, and honorary members, with varying rights.

WMDE was founded by 34 volunteers and was registered in Berlin on October 25, 2004. It is recognized as a non-profit organization for education. The chapter is funded mainly by donations and membership fees. Since 2012, a fundraising agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation governs how banner donations are distributed. In 2015, WMDE handled several million euros in banner donations, with major spending on software development, community support, and education, science, and culture.

Over the years, WMDE has hosted notable collaborations, such as a joint move by Creative Commons International and partnerships with national archives. It has faced debates about transparency and leadership changes, including significant leadership transitions in 2014.
