Policing in Wiltshire and Swindon
Policing in Wiltshire, including the borough of Swindon, is carried out by several organisations. Wiltshire Police is the local police force (formerly Wiltshire Constabulary). Because the area has a strong military presence, the Royal Military Police and the Ministry of Defence Police often work with Wiltshire Police. The National Crime Agency operates across the UK. For railways, policing is done by the British Transport Police. Some places have private security or public bodies with extra powers; for example, Salisbury City Council works with Venture Security to provide City Centre Security Officers, who have Community Safety Accreditation Scheme powers granted by the Chief Constable of Wiltshire.
