Lonnie Young
Lonnie Young (born July 18, 1963) is an American football executive and a former cornerback and safety. He was born in Flint, Michigan, and went to Beecher High School. He played college football at Michigan State University from 1981 to 1984, where he appeared as a defensive back and logged 3 interceptions in his senior year.
Young was drafted in the 12th round of the 1985 NFL draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent the early part of his career with the Cardinals (1985–1990), then played for the New York Jets (1991–1993), the San Diego Chargers (1994), and the Jets again (1995–1996). Over his NFL career he totaled 728 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 11 interceptions, 14 fumble recoveries, and 1 forced fumble.
After playing, Young worked in NFL front offices and as a scout. He held a Jets administration role in 2002, was an area scout for the Arizona Cardinals from 2003 to 2007, and a regional scout for the Baltimore Ravens from 2008 to 2019, a period that included a Super Bowl title (XLVII).
In October 2022, Young was named general manager of the Pittsburgh Maulers of the USFL. He later worked in Maulers operations. In January 2024 it was announced the Maulers would not be part of the UFL merger.
