Pak ganern game
Pak ganern is a short, energetic Filipino hand game for two or more players. There’s no setup, and the play happens instantly. Players clap or perform quick hand moves while shouting “Pak Ganern.” If someone makes a mistake, the group agrees on a light punishment.
Origin and meaning: It’s a modern takes on the older clap game “Nanay, Tatay.” In Pak Ganern, players say “Pak Ganern” instead of “Nanay, Tatay.” The phrase doesn’t have a fixed meaning, but it’s popular for its playful humor in Filipino culture. Linguists note that “ganern” comes from “ganoon” and “pak” from “tumpak,” or it may just be a playful sound.
History: The game was popularized by Vice Ganda on the noontime show It’s Showtime on August 17, 2016, where he demonstrated the moves with co-hosts. Since then, many Filipino celebrities have joined in.
