Anthony Armstrong (American football)
Anthony A. Armstrong (born March 29, 1983) is a former American football wide receiver who played in the NFL and the Arena Football League. He grew up in Greencastle, Indiana, and went to Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas, where he played football and ran track.
Armstrong played college football at West Texas A&M University, a Division II school. Over four years he collected 145 receptions for 1,768 yards and nine touchdowns, earning All-LSC honors during his time there. He went undrafted in 2005 and began his pro career in the Arena Football League, first with the Odessa Roughnecks in 2006 (where he helped win the IFL championship) and then with the Dallas Desperados from 2007 to 2008.
He moved to the NFL with the Miami Dolphins in 2008, initially on the practice squad. Armstrong later joined the Washington Redskins in 2009, where he developed as a deep threat and played through the 2011 season. Notable moments include a 76-yard reception in 2010 and a 50-yard touchdown in 2011. In his NFL career, he had 54 receptions for 986 yards and 5 touchdowns.
In 2012, Armstrong had stints with the Dolphins, Jaguars, and Cowboys. He signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2014 before being released later that year.
Personal life: Armstrong is the son of Gwen Armstrong and the late Thomas Armstrong. He is one of four siblings, with a brother named Courtney Lee and sisters Catrina Scott and Ashley Armstrong. He earned a marketing degree from West Texas A&M.
