Ovar is a city and municipality in central Portugal, in the Aveiro District near the Aveiro Lagoon. It had about 55,400 residents in 2011 and covers around 148 square kilometers. The municipality includes two cities, Ovar and Esmoriz, and three towns, and is divided into five civil parishes. The main beach area is Furadouro. The Mayor is Salvador Malheiro of the Social Democratic Party (PSD). The municipal holiday is July 25, Saint Christopher’s Day. Local football teams include Ovarense, which plays at Estádio Marques da Silva, and Florgrade.
