Association of Publishing Agencies
Association of Publishing Agencies (APA) is a UK not-for-profit trade body that supports companies that produce customer publications for brands. It is based in London and led by CEO Patrick Fuller and COO Julia Hutchison. The office is near Lincoln's Inn Fields in Holborn, Camden.
Customer publishing, also called contract publishing, means magazines, websites, or other digital content created by agencies for brand owners. Clients come from sectors such as automotive, retail, financial services, charities, the public sector, and travel. These publications help raise brand awareness, build loyalty, and can boost sales.
Retailers and financial services are the two biggest customer-publishing sectors, together making up about 30% of the market.
The market was worth about £904 million in 2008 and was expected to reach £1 billion by 2011. In 2007 the APA funded the APA Digital Audit to measure how digital content fits into customer publishing. An independent agency found growing demand for digital content among customer publishers.
