Neoserica obesa
Neoserica obesa is a small scarab beetle in the family Scarabaeidae. It was described by Péringuey in 1892 and has the synonym Serica obesa.
Where it lives
This species is found in Namibia and the Northern Cape region of South Africa.
What it looks like
Adults are about 10 mm long. They are chestnut-red with a slight fleshy tint and a faint metallic shine. The clypeus (front of the face) is rough but not deeply punctured. The scutellum (tiny shield between the wing covers) has very small punctures. The front part of the elytra (wing covers) has shallow raised lines and is punctato-striate; the spaces between the lines are plainly and closely punctured. On each side there are six rows of very small whitish hairs. The antennae end in a yellowish club.
