The Seventh Tower
The Seventh Tower is a six-book fantasy series by Garth Nix, created in a joint effort between Scholastic and Lucasfilm. It follows Tal, a Chosen from the Castle, and Milla, an Icecarl from the Ice, as they discover a long-lost evil threatening their sunless world. A broken pact rekindles a war that has slept for two thousand years, and Tal, Milla, and a small group of unlikely heroes must save their Dark World.
The series began after an editor at Scholastic liked Nix’s previous book Sabriel and suggested a new project with Lucasfilm. Scholastic and Lucasfilm gave Nix a broad idea list to guide the story but let him write freely, treating the ideas as seeds that grew into the books. The world featured a perpetual night and magical companions, two key elements that influenced the series.
The books were written quickly, with about three to four months spent on each one. The Fall, the first book, was published in June 2000. The Seventh Tower has sold more than a million copies in the United States and more than six million worldwide. Critics have praised Nix’s imaginative world, the relationship between Tal and Milla, and his storytelling pace and humor.
