Northwave s.r.l. is a private Italian sporting equipment company founded in 1991 in Montebelluna by Gianni Piva. It began as a shoe maker for other brands and later started making snowboard boots in the late 1980s. Piva created the Northwave boot line and named the brand after a windsurfing company from Hood River, Oregon. In 1991 Northwave released its snowboard boots. In 1997 it bought Drake Bindings to expand its bindings business, and in 1998 it added Bakoda Design Logic accessories after acquiring Bakoda. After more than ten years in snowboarding, Northwave launched Venue snowboards. Seeing success in action sports, Piva expanded into cycling by producing cycling shoes, starting in 1993. Today the company is headquartered in Pederobba, Italy, with brands including Northwave and Drake Snowboard, and its website is northwave.com.
