Acrochaeta is a genus of flies in the soldier fly family Stratiomyidae. It belongs to the subfamily Sarginae. Classification: Kingdom Animalia; Phylum Arthropoda; Class Insecta; Order Diptera; Family Stratiomyidae; Subfamily Sarginae; Genus Acrochaeta (Wiedemann, 1830). The type species is Acrochaeta fasciata (Wiedemann, 1830). Synonyms used in the past include Acrochoeta (Macquart, 1834); Compsosoma (Brauer, 1882); and Achrochaeta (Gigli-Tos, 1893).
