The Magnificent Ambersons is a 2002 American television drama film that aired on A&E. Inspired by Booth Tarkington’s novel The Magnificent Ambersons, it uses Orson Welles’s screenplay and editing notes from the original film, but it is not a strict remake. Directed by Alfonso Arau, the cast includes Madeleine Stowe, Bruce Greenwood, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Gretchen Mol, Jennifer Tilly, Dina Merrill, and James Cromwell. The movie runs about 150 minutes.

The film omits several scenes from Welles’s screenplay and ends in a way that is closer to the novel. Variety called it “one more sad step in the tragic film history of The Magnificent Ambersons.” On Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score is around 30% based on more than 250 reviews.

Produced for television by A&E Networks, De Angelis Group, RKO Pictures, and Victory Media Group, the film features executive producers Ted Hartley, Guido De Angelis, and Delia Fine; producers Gene Kirkwood, Norman Stephens, and Jonas Bauer; music by Ruy Folguera; cinematography by Kenneth MacMillan; and editing by David Martin. The production is in English and from the United States, with its original release date on January 13, 2002.
