Nicolás Suazo
Nicolás Suazo Velásquez, born January 9, 1965, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, is a retired Honduran footballer who played as a striker. Nicknamed Nicogol for his goal-scoring, he played in Honduras for Independiente Villela, Marathón and Victoria; in Costa Rica for Herediano; and in Guatemala for Comunicaciones and USAC. He scored 48 goals in the Honduran National League and is the most prolific Honduran scorer in the Costa Rican league with 46 goals.
Suazo earned 51 caps for Honduras and scored 28 goals between 1991 and 1998. He made his international debut in May 1991 in the UNCAF Nations Cup against Panama and played in 15 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. He represented Honduras at the UNCAF Cups in 1991, 1993 and 1995, and at the 1993 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was the top scorer at the 1993 UNCAF Cup with five goals. His final international match was in November 1998 against El Salvador.
After his playing career, he became a coach and won one championship in Honduras with C.D. Marathón. He is the son of Nicolás Suazo and Josefina Velásquez, the brother of footballer David Suazo, and cousin of Maynor Suazo.
