Girard II of Roussillon

Gerard II (also known as Girard in French, Gerard in Catalan, and Gerardo in Spanish) was the last largely independent count of Roussillon. He ruled from 1164 until his death in 1172 and was the son of Gausfred III. Like his father, he made peace treaties with the Counts of Ampurias. He inherited a weakened county and had to acknowledge the overlordship of Alfonso II, king of Aragon and count of Barcelona. When Gerard II died without children, he ceded Roussillon to Alfonso II.
