Aiways U5
The Aiways U5 is Aiways’ first electric compact SUV. Made in Shangrao, China, it was produced from 2019 to 2023 and designed by Ken Okuyama. It debuted as the U5 ion Concept at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show, with a styling update in 2021 while its size stayed the same. The car is praised for its aerodynamic shape (drag coefficient 0.29) and practical design.
Key features
- Battery and range: 63 kWh lithium-ion battery, about 400 km of WLTP range (410 km in some trims).
- Motor and performance: 150 kW (201 hp) permanent-magnet synchronous motor, 310 Nm of torque, front-wheel drive, 0–100 km/h in about 7.5 seconds.
- Charging: DC fast charging 30–80% in around 27 minutes; AC charging at 6.6 kW takes roughly 8–10 hours for a full charge.
- Interior and tech: Large 12.3-inch touchscreen, 8-speaker audio, DAB+, standard advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
- Variants: Standard and Premium.
- Dimensions and weight: Wheelbase 2,800 mm; length 4,680 mm; width 1,865 mm; height 1,700 mm. Curb weight around 1,720–1,770 kg depending on trim.
- Availability and price: Early price range was roughly 197,900–292,100 yuan. It reached markets in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and Denmark, with plans for availability in Thailand as well.
Additional notes
- The U5 was originally shown as the U5 ion Concept in 2018 and later received a design refresh while keeping the same overall footprint.
- Aiways uses a CATL-supplied “sandwich” battery pack with 24 modules to improve safety and cooling.
