Nemo was an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, formed in 2002 by Luke McCartney and Dennis Tyhacz. They named the group after Captain Nemo from Jules Verne’s novel.

Their debut album, Signs of Life, came out in June 2004 on Binge Records. It mixed new wave, ethereal acoustic sounds, and indie rock. The album was recorded entirely in a Williamsburg apartment in 2003, and it was one of the last LPs mastered at the Vic Thrill Salon in Brooklyn before the studio closed in 2004. The title track “Signs of Life” appeared on PBS’s Roadtrip Nation in 2005, and several songs from the album were used as backing music for NPR’s Morning Edition for several years afterward.

After Nemo, McCartney and Tyhacz formed The Sound Mirrors in 2006 and released The Calling in 2007, also on Binge Records.

Members: Luke McCartney, Dennis Tyhacz. Additional members (touring/recording): Chris Plyem, Sam McCall.
