Tukezban Goyushova
Tukezban Goyushova (born December 6, 1972, in Baku) is an Azerbaijani archaeologist and associate professor. She is the leading researcher of the Middle and Late Bronze Age Archaeology department at the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). Her work focuses on ancient necropolises, cyclopean fortresses, and especially bronze belts from the Bronze Age in Azerbaijan.
Since 2008 she has led the Gedabey archaeological expedition, becoming the first Azerbaijani woman to head an expedition in 35 years. She has conducted extensive research in Gedabey’s cyclopean fortresses, fortresses such as Leshkar and Govdu, and has identified the Delme fort as a significant site in the region. Her notable discoveries include monuments dating to the late Bronze and early Iron Ages, such as Horukdash and Akhchachikhan in Shinikh and Goyelli, which have enriched the Gedabey Archaeological Culture studies. Thousands of artifacts from her excavations were placed in the Gedabey Museum.
Goyushova earned her PhD in history in 2010 with a dissertation titled “Bronze Belts of Azerbaijan” and was awarded the title of associate professor in 2019. She has published more than 50 scientific articles, 15 reports, and 10 works abroad, including the monograph Bronze Belts of Azerbaijan. She studied at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts and began her career at ANAS in 1995, rising through the ranks to lead major projects. She has participated in international expeditions and collaborations with experts from France and the United States, and in 2022 she led excavations at Gedabey’s Koroglu fortress in Galakand and Namerdgala near Soyudlu. Tukezban Goyushova remains active in teaching and research, and she continues to share her findings at universities and conferences.
