MusE
MusE is a free, open-source digital audio workstation (DAW) for Linux. It acts as a MIDI and audio sequencer with recording and editing capabilities, designed for multitrack work. It was created by Werner Schweer and is now developed by the MusE development team. MusE is released under the GPL-2.0-or-later license and is written in C++ with the Qt toolkit.
MusE runs on Linux using ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) and can coordinate audio sessions with LASH. It does not currently support other operating systems because it relies on Linux-specific technologies.
Key history and features:
- The music notation feature was removed in version 0.7; this code later became the cross-platform MuseScore Studio.
- A scoring feature returned in version 2.0.
- From version 2.2, MusE supports LV2 plugins; it previously supported LADSPA, DSSI, and VST.
- Version 4.0 introduced a redesigned user interface.
