Molly Tuttle
Molly Rose Tuttle (born January 14, 1993) is an American bluegrass and Americana musician who sings, writes songs, and plays guitar and banjo. She’s known for her skilled flatpicking, crosspicking and clawhammer styles.
She was born in Santa Clara, California, and grew up in Palo Alto. She started playing guitar at eight, performed onstage with her father, bluegrass musician Jack Tuttle, at eleven, and joined The Tuttles with AJ Lee when she was fifteen. The family band also included her siblings Sullivan and Michael and AJ Lee. In 2006 she recorded The Old Apple Tree with her father.
Tuttle finished Palo Alto High School in 2011 and earned Berklee College of Music merit scholarships in 2012. She won the Hazel Dickens Memorial Scholarship and the Chris Austin Songwriting Competition, and appeared on Prairie Home Companion. While at Berklee in 2014 she joined the Goodbye Girls, an all-female bluegrass group.
Early in her career, The Tuttles released Introducing the Tuttles in 2011 and Endless Ocean in 2013. She moved from Boston to Nashville in 2015. Her solo work grew with the Rise EP in 2017, and she formed The Molly Tuttle Band. In 2018 she joined a high-profile all-female bluegrass group known as the First Ladies of Bluegrass for select performances.
Tuttle released her debut solo album, When You’re Ready, in 2019, followed by I’d Rather Be with You Again in 2020. In 2021 she formed Golden Highway, a band that released Crooked Tree in 2022 and City of Gold in 2023. Both albums won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album, and Tuttle was named IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year in 2023.
In May 2025 Golden Highway disbanded, and Tuttle started a new all-female project that will tour. Her album So Long Little Miss Sunshine is planned for release on August 15, 2025, led by producer Jay Joyce and preceded by the single “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark.”
Personal life: Tuttle has alopecia areata from childhood, which progressed to alopecia universalis, resulting in total body hair loss. Since 2023 she has been in a relationship with Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show, and they became engaged on December 3, 2025.
