Mega Builders
Mega Builders is a Canadian documentary TV series in English that ran for five seasons and 36 episodes, with each episode about 45 minutes long. It was produced by Barna-Alper Productions and Mega Builders III Productions and aired on the Discovery Channel and Science Channel from September 19, 2005, to December 16, 2010.
Each episode explores the people and machines behind big engineering projects, giving a behind-the-scenes look at how these massive structures are built. In 2022, a Taiwan version aired that focused on the construction of the Tao Zhu Yin Yuan residential high-rise over 11 years.
The show has covered projects such as the Bhumibol Bridge, the Gotthard Base Tunnel, and transportation-improvement efforts in North America and Madrid. Critics praised Mega Builders: Kirsty Heysen of The Daily Telegraph called it a great series about hugely ambitious undertakings; Brad Newsome of The Age said it isn’t a dull construction show, noting the Sweden ice hotel as an example; The Sunday Mail highlighted its colorful characters and epic projects; and Correio 24 Horas noted that it helps explain why Rio de Janeiro faced stadium challenges ahead of the Olympics.
