Wahab Bugti
Wahab Bugti, also known as Abdul Wahab Bugti (born 1985/1986), is a Pakistani folk musician from Goth Mohammad Umar in Nasirabad, Balochistan. He sings in Balochi and Urdu and plays the dambura, a traditional long-necked string instrument.
From a young age, he loved singing and joined a local music academy. He performed at weddings with his teacher and later shared his music online, even setting up his own recording studio. His soulful version of the song “Teri Mitti” from the Hindi film Kesari (2020) went viral in July 2021.
Bugti rose to wider fame when he was invited to Coke Studio Pakistan Season 14 by producer Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan. He collaborated with Kaifi Khalil and Eva B on the Balochi pop track “Kana Yaari,” contributing vocals, lyrics, and the dambura. The song was released in January 2022 and quickly became a hit online, boosting his fame both in Pakistan and internationally. He later met the Norwegian dance group Quick Style, who performed to Kana Yaari, and Bugti jammed with them in Dubai during a Coke Studio concert.
In November 2022, he performed a folk and contemporary version of Pakistan’s national anthem with Shehzad Roy at the Lux Style Awards.
Bugti lives in Nasirabad’s rural area, where he runs livestock and farming. He is married with eight children. Some sources spell his name Wahab Ali Bugti.
In August 2022, his mud house and village were destroyed by monsoon floods, forcing his family to relocate to Dera Murad Jamali. He received support from Balochistan’s chief minister, an army rescue team, and Coke Studio producer Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, as well as online crowdsourcing.
