Li Yuanyuan (born 3 October 1958) is a Chinese engineer and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He is the Communist Party Secretary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and has served as president of South China University of Technology, Jilin University, and HUST. He was a delegate to the 9th and 12th National People’s Congress.

Early life and education: He was born in Mei County, Guangdong. In 1973 he joined the Down to the Countryside Movement as a sent-down youth. He studied at Hunan University, earning a bachelor's degree in foundry science in 1982. He then earned a master's degree in foundry science in 1987 and a PhD in machine manufacturing in 1998, both from South China University of Technology.

Academic career: After graduating, he taught in Hunan University’s Mechanical Department, then joined South China University of Technology in 1987. He became associate professor in 1992 and full professor in 1993. He was a visiting scholar at Technische Universität Berlin from February to May 1997. He rose to vice president of SCUT in 1998 and became president in 2003. He served as president of Jilin University from 2011 to 2018 (a position at vice-ministerial level) and joined the CCP Jilin Provincial Committee Standing Committee in 2012. In 2018 he became president of HUST, and in October 2021 he was promoted to party secretary of the university.

Research and recognition: His research areas include powder metallurgy and casting.
