McCarter & English, LLP is a U.S. full‑service law firm based in Newark, New Jersey. Founded in 1845, it is one of the oldest law firms in the country. The firm has about 400 lawyers and 12 offices across the United States, including Boston, East Brunswick, Hartford, Indianapolis, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Stamford, Wilmington, and Washington, D.C.
Its clients range from Fortune 100 companies to mid-sized businesses and nonprofits, in areas such as finance, manufacturing, health care, government, education, and more. McCarter provides general legal services to these organizations.
In February 2014, McCarter acquired Miller, Balis & O’Neil, a Washington, DC–based energy law firm. The firm operates as a limited liability partnership. Key leaders are Joseph Lubertazzi Jr. (chairman) and Joseph T. Boccassini (firmwide managing partner).
