Uptown (band)
Uptown (Korean: 업타운) is a South Korean hip hop group that formed in 1997. They helped pioneer Korean hip hop. The original four members were Chris Jung, Carlos Galvan, Steve Kim, and Tasha Reid. The group had many lineup changes and disbanded in 2000 after Jung, Galvan, and Kim faced drug charges. Reid left to pursue a solo career.
They came back in 2006 with the album Testimony. Jessica H. O., a teenage rapper, joined for that release. In 2009, for the album New Era, Jung was the only original member left, and Maniac, Snacky Chan, and Swings joined.
Uptown released another album, Surprise!, in 2010 and has been inactive since.
Separately, Galvan and Kim formed a duo called Uptown 3000 in 2002. They signed with a label in Atlanta and released the album Same Book Different Chapter in 2003 before disbanding.
