MAN Lion's City
The MAN Lion's City is a family of public buses made by MAN Truck & Bus since 1996. It is designed for city use and comes in three main forms: single-decker NL models, double-decker ND models, and the long, articulated NG models. In 2006, MAN grouped these city buses under the Lion's City name, giving all its urban buses one common brand.
Power and drive options vary by model. Most Lion’s City buses run on diesel, but some versions are available as compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) buses. There are also hybrid-electric and fully electric variants, with the hybrid version introduced around 2010 to improve fuel efficiency in urban driving.
The bus family is built and assembled in several places. The main production center for the Lion’s City is in Poland (Starachowice and Sady). Integral (fully built) versions are made in Germany (Munich) and, in some markets, Malaysia (Johor) by Gemilang Coachworks. Other plants have contributed as needed to meet market demand.
Around the world, Lion’s City buses are used by many cities and operators. Some versions are built as complete integral buses, while others are chassis-only and paired with locally built bodies. In some markets, licensed bodywork from local manufacturers is used to fit regional requirements.
The Lion's City family is known for its low-floor design, which makes it easy to board and exit, and for its flexibility in doors, lengths, and configurations. The range continues to evolve with newer, cleaner engines to meet changing emission standards and with ongoing development of hybrid and electric options for urban mobility.
