Scolecenchelys aoki
Scolecenchelys aoki, also known as the Misaki worm eel or Japan earthworm conger, is a worm eel in the family Ophichthidae. It lives in temperate marine waters around Japan, in the northwestern Pacific, often near reefs. The species was described in 1901 by D. S. Jordan and J. O. Snyder and was originally placed in the genus Muraenichthys. Males can reach up to 44.8 cm in total length. It has had several synonyms over time, including Muraenichthys aoki, Muraenichthys borealis, Scolecenchelys borealis, Muraenichthys japonicus, Scolecenchelys japonica, Muraenichthys okamurai, and Scolecenchelys okamurai.
