Lost Burro Formation

The Lost Burro Formation is a dolomite rock layer from the Middle to Late Devonian period in the Mojave Desert of California. It lies beneath the Tin Mountain Limestone and above the Hidden Valley Dolomite. The main rock type is dolomite. It crops out in the Darwin Hills, Santa Rosa Hills, Talc City Hills, the Inyo Mountains near Cerro Gordo Mines, the Panamint Range near Towne Pass, and the Argus Range.

In Death Valley National Park, fossils found in this formation include the armored fish Dunkleosteus terrelli, a small cladodont shark, a cochliodont tooth, and the pteraspidid Blieckaspis priscillae.

The Lost Burro Formation was named for Lost Burro Gap and was named by McAllister in 1952.
