Elstertrebnitz is a small municipality in Saxony, Germany, in the Leipzig district. It lies southwest of Leipzig and about 15 kilometers northeast of Zeitz, in a flat, agricultural area. The town covers about 11.66 square kilometers and has around 1,276 residents (as of 2023). It is bordered by Pegau to the north, Groitzsch to the northeast, the Elsteraue region to the south, and Hohenmölsen to the west; the Profen open-cast mine sits to the west and separates Elstertrebnitz from Hohenmölsen. A historic waterway, the Elstermühlgraben, runs through the area. This canal diverted from the Elster river powered mills from Elstertrebnitz to Kleindalzig until the 20th century, and later provided bathing and washing water for locals; the Pegauer Baths near the canal still use its water. Today, only a few mills remain and the area is still largely farmland. The municipality has seven subdivisions.
