1998–99 Huddersfield Town A.F.C. season
Huddersfield Town's 1998–99 season
- Manager: Peter Jackson. Chairman: Barry Rubery. Stadium: Kirklees Stadium.
- Division One: Finished 10th.
- FA Cup: Reached the fifth round, knocked out by Derby County in a replay.
- League Cup: Eliminated in the second round by Everton.
- Top scorer: Marcus Stewart (22 league goals, 26 in all competitions).
- Notable moments: Nico Vaesen joined as goalkeeper and initially had a dramatic debut red card but soon impressed; winger Ben Thornley joined on loan from Manchester United. Town briefly led Division One in September–October.
- Big results: Biggest win 4–0 vs Crystal Palace; biggest defeat 1–7 vs Barnsley. Highest attendance 21,629 (vs Derby in the FA Cup); lowest attendance 3,988 (vs Mansfield Town).
- End of season: Poor run—only one win in the last 11 matches, including a 3–2 win over Bradford City. Off the field, Rubery’s takeover talks brought investment but unsettled the club; Jackson was sacked after the season and replaced by Steve Bruce, with Jackson declining the academy director role.
