Carlo Goldoni (1707–1793) was a Venetian playwright and librettist who wrote many Italian plays in the 18th century. He helped change Italian theater by replacing improvised performances with fully written comedies about everyday life and ordinary people. His work was popular across Italy and influenced theater for years to come.
