The 68th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was a Union Army regiment that served in the American Civil War. It organized in Philadelphia and mustered on August 4, 1862, for a three-year term under Colonel Andrew H. Tippin. The regiment fought mainly with the Army of the Potomac, moving through various brigades and corps, and later performed provost guard duties.

They left Pennsylvania for Washington, D.C., on September 1, 1862, camped at Arlington Heights, and then moved to Poolesville, Maryland, before advancing to Leesburg and Falmouth, Virginia. The unit fought in several major campaigns and battles, including Fredericksburg (December 1862); the Chancellorsville Campaign (April–May 1863); the Gettysburg Campaign (June–July 1863) and the battle at Gettysburg (July 1–3, 1863); the Bristoe Campaign (October 1863); Mine Run Campaign (November–December 1863); the Rapidan Campaign with battles such as the Wilderness (May 1864) and Spotsylvania, followed by North Anna, Totopotomoy, and Cold Harbor (May–June 1864).

From June 1864 to April 1865, they performed garrison and provost duties at City Point, Virginia, and then took part in the assault on Petersburg on April 2, 1865, and the city’s occupation the next day. The regiment was moved to Hart's Island, New York Harbor, in April 1865 to guard prisoners until June, when it mustered out on June 9, 1865.

During its service, the 68th Pennsylvania lost a total of 122 men: 10 officers and 61 enlisted men were killed or mortally wounded, and 51 enlisted men died of disease.
