List of civil parishes in England
List of civil parishes in England (short version)
What is a civil parish?
A civil parish is the lowest level of local government in England. Each parish may have its own council to look after local matters.
How the list is organized
The article lists civil parishes by ceremonial county and shows a map of ceremonial counties.
Unparished areas
Some areas have no parish councils. The London boroughs (except Westminster) and the City of London are not parished. In addition, many districts elsewhere in England are entirely unparished. Examples include Blackpool, Bristol, Cambridge, Derby, Eastbourne, Exeter, Hastings, Ipswich, Kingston upon Hull, Leicester, Lincoln, Liverpool, Luton, North Tyneside, Norwich, Nottingham, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Oadby and Wigston, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Reading, Rochdale, Runnymede, Rushmoor, Salford, Sandwell, Southampton, South Tyneside, Spelthorne, Stevenage, Stockport, Stoke-on-Trent, Tamworth, Thurrock, Walsall, Watford, Wirral, Woking, Wolverhampton, and Worthing.
A note on Cornwall and East Riding of Yorkshire
Cornwall and the East Riding of Yorkshire are described as having parishes for nearly all areas, with unpopulated offshore areas being the exception.
Parished districts
Many districts in England are entirely or mostly covered by parish councils. A large number of districts have parish councils for all their area, while others are parished only in parts. (The list of parished districts is extensive and covers many parts of the country.)
