Challenger Columbia Stadium
Challenger Columbia Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in League City, Texas, near NASA's Johnson Space Center. It is the second district stadium for Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) and serves five 6A high schools: Clear Brook, Clear Creek, Clear Falls, Clear Lake, and Clear Springs. The 10,000-seat venue has a synthetic turf field and a 34-by-19-foot LED scoreboard. Construction began on March 26, 2014, and it opened on March 10, 2016, at a cost of about $39,079,651. The stadium was designed by PBK Architects. It was funded by a May 11, 2013 bond election approved by 68% of voters to relieve the older Veterans Memorial Stadium, which had become overloaded as the district grew and added new high schools. Opening was delayed by heavy rains in 2015. The name honors the Challenger and Columbia astronauts who died in 1986 and 2003, with a dedication ceremony at opening. The site is next to Challenger Seven Memorial Park at 2145 West NASA Boulevard.
