Who Dat (J. Cole song)
Who Dat is a hip hop song by J. Cole, released as a single on May 31, 2010. It runs 3:58 and was produced by J. Cole and Elite. It was meant to be the lead single for Cole’s first album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, but it was removed from the standard album and only appears as a bonus track on the iTunes edition. The song samples “Godofallofus” by New Hope and includes a line from OutKast’s “SpottieOttieDopalicious” (with André 3000).
Cole said the track was chosen as a first single mainly for its beat and rhymes, serving as an introduction for new listeners and as something his fans could brag about. The music video was directed by BBGun and shot in Fayetteville, North Carolina, showing Cole walking with local college cheerleaders and a high school marching band in one continuous shot; Fayetteville State University later objected to the lyrics and tried to have the video removed.
On September 7, 2011, a remix called “Who Datt Pt. 2” featuring Spencer Datt and Childish Gambino was released and appeared on Peter Rosenberg’s mixtape What’s Poppin Volume One. Rosenberg said the remix was made in honor of Spencer Datt, who had died in a car crash, and he got J. Cole and Donald Glover to record new verses.
