Iran’s castles have long protected the country, especially in ancient times. They were often built on high, rocky hills along important routes or near cities. The steep slopes and cliffs made them strong defenses and gave wide views to watch for enemies. Most castles had springs or wells for water, unless they were already surrounded by water.
