The Liga de Baloncesto Puertorriqueña (LBP) is Puerto Rico’s second-tier professional basketball league. It is sanctioned by FIBA Americas and run by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. Founded in 1984 as La Liga del Pueblo to develop local players for their communities, the league now has four divisions — Norte, Este, Sur and Oeste — and about 44 teams (season 2021–2022). Some teams reuse names from the top-tier Baloncesto Superior Nacional, showing close ties between the leagues. The LBP has had TV partnerships and major sponsors in its history. Current champions: Guerrilleros de Rio Grande (1st title). TV partners include Telemundo, WAPA 2 Deportes and DirecTV Puerto Rico. Website: lbpoficial.com.
