Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center
Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center is a non-profit hospital in Lakeland, Florida with 892 beds, owned and operated by Lakeland Regional Health. It began when Mrs. F.A. Morrell left land in 1914 to build a community hospital for Polk County; a bond issue funded the project. Architect A.J. Poteet designed the building, and E.C. Angell built it. Morrell Memorial Hospital opened on August 11, 1916 with 65 beds and 24 staff. Today it is a Provisional Level I trauma center and, in 2021, the second busiest emergency department in the nation, with over 190,500 visits a year. It is an accredited chest pain center with primary PCI and resuscitation, and a thrombectomy-capable stroke center. The campus includes the Carol Jenkins Barnett Pavilion for Women and Children and a Level III NICU.
