Dry River (Jamaica)
Dry River is a river in St Mary, Jamaica. It starts high on the border with Portland, from about ten small streams near Cocoa Wood on Telegraph Mountain, just east of the Blue Mountains. From its source at about 4,000 feet, the river flows mostly northward to the Caribbean Sea, entering just west of the Golden Grove Estate. The upper part is a fast mountain river, dropping about 3,750 feet in the first 10 kilometers and having many small waterfalls and rapids. After reaching around 250 feet above sea level, it slows and takes about 9 more kilometers to reach the sea. Along its course it crosses several bridges, including at Timsberry, near Enfield, and finally under a road and a railway bridge near the coast. Most of its tributaries are short and unnamed. There are other Dry Rivers in Jamaica in Clarendon, St Andrew and St Thomas.
