KGFX-FM
KGFX-FM, known as River 92.7, is a radio station on 92.7 FM serving Pierre, South Dakota. It broadcasts Top 40 (CHR) music and is owned by James River Broadcasting Company, part of Ingstad Family Media’s DRG Media Group. The station shares studio space with its sister stations at 214 West Pleasant Drive in Pierre.
The station’s history includes several format changes. It began in the 1980s as KG93 with a Top 40 format, later becoming 92-7 The Fox with classic rock, then switching to hot adult contemporary as River 92.7. In March 2013, it returned to Top 40 (CHR) while keeping the River 92.7 branding.
KGFX-FM is part of the DRG Media Group, reflecting the long-standing KGFX call letters in Pierre. The historic KGFX calls trace back to an amateur station in 1916 and a 1927 commercial station led by Ida McNeil, affectionately known as "Mrs. Pierre."
