John Henry, Margrave of Moravia
John Henry of Luxembourg (Jan Jindřich), 1322–1375, was a Bohemian prince. He was born in Mělník, the son of King John of Bohemia and Elizabeth, and the younger brother of Emperor Charles IV. He became Count of Tyrol from 1335 to 1341 and married Margaret of Tyrol in 1330.
Their marriage and his Tyrolean rule led to years of political conflict. In 1341 Margaret blocked him from Tyrol Castle, and the couple’s union was later declared not valid by church law. In 1349 John Henry renounced his claim to Bohemia and was given the Margraviate of Moravia by Charles IV, ruling Moravia from 1349 until his death. He married Margaret of Opava and had several children, including Jobst. After Opava’s death in 1363, he married Margaret of Austria, widow of Meinhard III of Tyrol, and later Elizabeth of Oettingen.
John Henry died in Brno on 12 November 1375 and was buried at St Thomas Church in Brno.
