Malam Lawal Triumph is a Nigerian Islamic preacher based in Kano State. He came to public attention after people accused him of making statements during sermons that some called blasphemous. In 2025, groups submitted petitions saying his remarks were offensive to religion. The Kano State Government sent the case to the Kano State Shura Council, the state’s Islamic advisory body for religious matters. The council reviewed audio and video from the sermons and asked the involved people to share their accounts. In October 2025, the Shura Council announced a temporary suspension of Triumph from preaching and teaching while they finished their review. The suspension was described as an interim administrative action. Triumph denied the accusations, saying his remarks were misunderstood or taken out of context. He appeared before the Shura Council to respond. The case sparked public discussion and drew reactions from religious groups and civil organizations. Some called for disciplinary action, while others urged due process.
