Jane Fallon
Jane Fallon (born 9 December 1960) is an English author and television producer. She grew up in Harrow, London, as the youngest of five children, and later lived in Buckinghamshire above her parents’ newsagent shop. She studied history at University College London, graduating in 1982, and wrote for university magazines and papers.
After college, Fallon worked at a theatrical literary agency, then as a freelance script reader and editor for theatre and TV. In 1994 she became a producer on EastEnders, later working on series such as This Life, 20 Things to Do Before You’re 30 and Teachers. In 2006 she left television to become a full-time novelist. Her first novel, Getting Rid of Matthew, came out around 2007 and became a bestseller.
Fallon has written many romance-comedy novels, including Got You Back, Foursome, The Ugly Sister, Skeletons, Strictly Between Us, My Sweet Revenge, Faking Friends, Tell Me a Secret, Queen Bee, Worst Idea Ever and Just Got Real. Her books have been translated into more than 20 languages. Got You Back was adapted into the musical Joyride, which premiered in Malmö, Sweden, on 6 September 2024.
She has received awards and nominations, including the 2011 Melissa Nathan Award nomination for Foursome and the 2018 National Book Awards nomination for Faking Friends; she was longlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Prize in 2019. In 2020 she received an honorary fellowship from University College London.
Fallon has been in a long-term relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais since 1982; they met at UCL and have lived together in Hampstead since 1984. Her niece Elsie Fallon is an actress. Her books are published by Penguin.
