Jan de Blécourt
Jan Johannes de Blécourt (13 July 1860 – 20 March 1925) was a Dutch sport shooter. He was born in Wildervank, Groningen, and later lived in Hees, Nijmegen. He died in Laag-Soeren at age 64.
He competed in two events at the 1908 Summer Olympics. He raised concerns about scoring irregularities in the competition. There were no clear rules for shots that touched the ring lines: some referees counted such hits as the higher score, while others said the bullet had to pass halfway through the ring. After every ten shots, the targets were covered, so scores could not be reviewed later. He also criticized the pistol event for requiring six shots in four minutes, saying he wouldn’t have competed if he had known this beforehand. The Belgian team captain also considered leaving the range after noticing scoring problems from a distance with binoculars.
