Robert Presley O'Bannon
Robert Presley O'Bannon (September 10, 1898 – June 16, 1987) was an Indiana politician and newspaper publisher. He was born in Corydon, Indiana, and was a descendant of Presley O'Bannon. After finishing Corydon Central High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War I and later earned a degree from Purdue University.
In 1925, he married Faith Dropsey. They had five children, one of whom died as a newborn in 1936. From 1943 to 1970, O'Bannon owned and published the Corydon Democrat. He was elected to the Indiana Senate as a Democrat in 1950 and served as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee before retiring in 1970. He was inducted into the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame in 1971.
Their son Frank O'Bannon later followed in his father's footsteps, serving in the State Senate and as publisher of the Corydon Democrat, and he became Lieutenant Governor in 1989 and Governor in 1997.
Robert Presley O'Bannon died of a stroke on June 16, 1987.
