Megalogomphus hannyngtoni
Megalogomphus hannyngtoni is a dragonfly in the Gomphidae family. It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List and is known only from the Western Ghats of India.
Description: This is a large dragonfly with bottle-green eyes. The thorax is black with bright greenish-yellow stripes, and the abdomen is black with citron-yellow markings.
Habitat and behavior: It lives in forested mountain streams, patrolling along the banks. It usually perches on overhanging twigs and is rarely seen on rocks. It breeds in fast-flowing hill streams.
Taxonomy: The species was described by Fraser in 1923 and has also been known as Heterogomphus hannyngtoni.
