Jam Sessions
Jam Sessions is a Nintendo DS guitar-simulation game. It began as a Japan-only title called Sing & Play DS Guitar M-06, created by Plato, and was later released in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand by Ubisoft.
The game uses the DS touch screen to strum and the D-pad to pick chords. In its progression mode you play through songs to unlock features like upgraded strings and new backgrounds, while Free Play lets you practice or jam without being judged. Tutorial and Warm Up modes help you learn the controls and how to play.
Jam Sessions is meant as a guitar tool, not a traditional rhythm game. You can sing along with the DS microphone when using headphones or a speaker, and you can connect the DS to an amplifier for better sound. A Performance Bundle with a portable amplifier was planned for 2008 but never released. Ubisoft added extra songs and lyrics for Western versions, and some songs include audio demos.
Certain versions include exclusive songs through Best Buy; these can be unlocked in other copies by entering a Konami Code. In Europe, you can unlock songs in Free Play by entering Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right (left-handed mode uses X X B B Y A Y A). The game gained notoriety in Australia and New Zealand due to controversial ads.
Release dates: Japan February 1, 2007; North America September 11, 2007; Australia September 27, 2007; Europe September 28, 2007. The game is single-player.
