Mosdeux
Mosdeux is a U.S.-based, deaf-owned film studio that develops, produces, and distributes movies for the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. It was founded in January 2005 by Chad W. Taylor and Wayne Betts, Jr., who are deaf. Their goal was to bring stories from the deaf community to the screen.
Chad W. Taylor studied Information Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Wayne Betts, Jr. studied Film and Animation at RIT. They met while acting in a play called See How They Run at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). They stayed in touch, and Chad’s work in the Video Relay Service (VRS) industry—first as Product Development Manager at Sprint Relay, then as a Software Engineer at Hands On Video Relay Services—helped them collaborate across distances via video conferencing. One night they decided to start a company, and Mosdeux was born.
When Hands On VRS needed a promotional video, Chad asked Betts, who was still an RIT student, to help. Betts flew to California to shoot the video, and Mosdeux moved forward. Wayne Betts later became Mosdeux’s marketing director and produced several promotional videos, including The Taste of HOVRS and a Santa Claus commercial, along with other popular HOVRS-related videos in the deaf community.
The Mosdeux logo reflects their focus on deaf culture: a broken microphone split into two pieces to symbolize breaking through the sound barrier and bringing deaf stories to cinema.
