The Indian cricket team toured Australia from 8 to 31 January 2016, playing two tour matches, five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

ODI series (5 matches)
- Result: Australia won 4–1.
- Most runs: Rohit Sharma (India) 441; Steve Smith (Australia) 315.
- Most wickets: John Hastings (Australia) 10; Ishant Sharma (India) 9.
- Player of the series: Rohit Sharma (India).

T20I series (3 matches)
- Result: India won 3–0.
- Most runs: Virat Kohli (India) 199; Shane Watson (Australia) 151.
- Most wickets: Jasprit Bumrah (India) 6; Shane Watson (Australia) 3.
- Player of the series: Virat Kohli (India).

Key changes and injuries
- India: Mohammed Shami was ruled out with a hamstring injury. Bhuvneshwar Kumar played in ODIs; Jasprit Bumrah played in the T20Is. Rishi Dhawan was brought in for the T20I squad as Shami’s replacement.
- Australia: Mitchell Marsh was replaced by John Hastings for the second ODI. Usman Khawaja was added for the second and third ODIs to replace David Warner, who left for paternity leave. Nathan Lyon and David Warner were added for the fourth and fifth ODIs. Joel Paris and Usman Khawaja were dropped at times. Cameron Bancroft joined Australia’s squad for the third T20I as a replacement for Matthew Wade. For the last T20I, Shane Watson captained Australia because Aaron Finch was injured.
